SKF Vertevo has partnered with Samsara, the pioneer of the Connected Operations® Platform, to deliver an integrated bearing safety solution that improves fleet safety, efficiency, and maintenance management. The partnership combines SKF’s TraX Wheel End Monitoring (WEM) system with Samsara’s robust platform to provide fleet operators with real-time, data-driven insights.
With the integration of Samsara Smart Trailers solution to SKF’s TraX WEM system, fleet operators can integrate wheel-end health information into their Samsara platform for complete view of their fleet and trailer health. By delivering alerts within minutes about the status of wheel bearings on their trailers, the system can help avoid costly breakdowns. By alerting fleet operators to potential issues before they become more serious, the systems can also help prevent accidents.
"Our partnership with SKF is a significant step forward in providing our customers with a truly comprehensive view of their fleet's health. By integrating SKF's TraX Wheel End Monitoring system with the Samsara Connected Operations Platform, we're empowering fleets to move from reactive to proactive maintenance. This means fewer breakdowns, increased uptime, and, most importantly, enhanced safety for drivers and the public,” said David Gal, VP of Product & Engineering at Samsara.
The TraX Wheel End Monitor detects vibration and temperature from the wheel bearing to provide early warnings for issues such as wheel bearing damage and raceway spalling. Knowing the health of the wheel end in real time allows fleets to eliminate preventative wheel bearing replacement, reducing maintenance costs and vehicle downtime. This monitor provides an ‘early warning’ of possible trouble allowing fleet managers and drivers to take proactive measures thousands of miles before a likely service interruption.
A standout feature of the TraX WEM is its ability to detect thermal events promptly. In the event of a temperature anomaly, the sensor triggers an immediate alert, allowing the fleet to instruct the driver to pull over to prevent bearing failure, ensuring the utmost safety on the road.
