SKF Vehicle Aftermarket Unveils TraX Wheel End Monitor at 2021 TMC Annual Meeting

Earlier this month, SKF Vehicle Aftermarket debuted its TraX Wheel End Monitor (WEM) at the American Trucking Association (ATA) Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) 2021 Annual Fall Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition. This year’s event took place on September 12 to 16 at the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland, OH.

The TraX WEM is a sensor unit installed on the wheels of heavy-duty vehicles. It detects potential issues via intelligent monitoring of wheel-end vibration and temperature. It integrates with multiple Telematic Service Provider’s technology to notify drivers and fleet maintenance crews via wireless communication of any potential wheel-end conditions that could compromise performance and safety. For example, bearing vibration is detected and reported typically thousands of miles before a likely service interruption.

During this year’s show, SKF Vehicle Aftermarket also announced a partnership with Drōv Technologies, a technology leader in the smart truck and trailer movement, integrating the SKF TraX WEM with Drōv’s AirBoxOne™ Smart Trailer solution to foster greater fleet safety. Drōv Technologies AirBoxOne™ Smart Trailer solution powers the first fully instrumented smart trailer. It monitors and controls multiple conditions and generates real-time alerts and warnings about the state of the trailer. This information is transmitted directly to fleets and drivers via Drōv ’s web-based mobile and desktop interfaces, as well as the Vehicle Health Display. The AirBoxOne™ smart trailer solution also supports the only fully integrated, electronically controlled tire management system. It features multiple camera applications and a platform for further integration and expansion.

The integration of the SKF TraX WEM with the Drōv AirBoxOne™ Smart Trailer solution provides a comprehensive view of wheel-end conditions to help prevent unscheduled downtime and improve safety. Early detection can lead to avoidance of costly repairs, damaged reputations and traffic hazards. It can also help protect the lives of drivers and others on the road around them.

The TMC Show also provided SKF Vehicle Aftermarket with a forum in which to inform visitors about its leading line of bearings and other wheel-end, engine and transmission products. In addition to bearings, the SKF Vehicle Aftermarket exhibit highlighted tooling, lubrication and corrosion-resistant solutions for the heavy-duty commercial truck and trailer market.
